Jun. 7th, 2008 12:48 am put in perspective

I just finished watching The Muppet Movie with Dylan. Nothing like the simplicity and beauty of sharing a childhood memory with your own child. I got to sing all the songs (I have the original LP thank you very much) and watch him oooh and aaah throughout it all.

Dylan has always loved "The Rainbow Song" which I have sung to him since he was born. That along with "Sweet Baby James" and a simple nonsense song I made up about all the people who love him. So he got to see Kermit sing the original tonight. (in all honesty, he always requests the nonsense-made-up song the most. My only songwriting credit.)

Moments like this can not be bought. Period.

Warning; this is one bitter, nasty post. Read at your own risk.

Southwest Airlines is the WORST!! They have lost my little boy's suitcase. Yesterday they were super nice about it all; don't worry they kept saying. It will probably be on the next flight. And since this was in Ft. Lauderdale and I was driving back to Key West, it was reassuring that they were exercising due diligence in searching out the missing luggage. I've had bags that have been delayed, but never really truly lost. After multiple phone calls today they have now told me that the bag isn't in their system, as far as they are concerned, it never got on the plane in Birmingham. And all the nice folks I spoke to yesterday? Well, they are now MIA as well and I had to speak with a nasty, nasty lady who kept telling me I should have come in right away and file a claim. ARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!

So I have to go out and buy Dylan some new tennis shoes tomorrow. I'm hoping we can limp by on the clothes that I have kept here for him (my ex has had a bad habit of not sending enough clothes with him in the past). At least I do have some things here although he had grown and out of some of the stuff. He is wearing a pair of underwear right now that give a new meaning to tighty-whites. Kind of cute though.

Okay, I really need to focus on deep breathing, thinking happy thoughts and banishing this anguishing headache I've had all day. Tomorrow is another vicious day. I am a full week behind at work (brought some home with me but can't face it right now). Dylan has dragged out every single toy he owns here (what a mess) and I'm exhausted. At least we had a lovely trip home; stopped at this cute little beach outside of Islamorada where we picked up shells and saw a hermit and a ghost crab. Dylan does not like crabs. Then we pulled off the highway in Big Pine and saw 11 Key deer (little, itty bitty deer; about the size of a very large dog). We had the top down and they walked up to the car. Took lots of pictures.

I'm sure tomorrow will be a better day. It had better be!!

May. 14th, 2008 04:10 pm long time, no post

Okay, not that there is anything remotely interesting going on. But here's the update on my life.

Went to the opening of the Key West Songwriter's Festival. Pretty cool, saw lots of songwriters from Nashville that I've be-friended over the past two years. Went to a couple of the performances where I found myself getting a bit annoyed. I guess I'm just more inclined to independent country stuff and these are the more mainstream songwriters. It's nice hearing the people who write the stuff for Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, etc. singing their songs themselves. But after hearing for what seemed to be the 32nd time that the next song will be on the next Trace Adkins album (last year all the songs were going on the new Kenny Chesney album); I started losing it. How many songs are there are this new album? But had a blast hanging with my best buddy Eliza and we danced and drank and had bunches of fun.

The following day I took off for Meridian, Mississippi to visit my little boy for his 7th birthday. I love seeing him, but Meridian doesn't offer much in the way of things to do with a little boy. Next time I think I'll fly to Atlanta and stay there instead and go to art galleries, that great big park that's downtown and the zoo. I'm making my summer plans for him in Key West. I'm thinking beach, the pool, summer movies at the Tropic, this great little place that does sea life exploration classes for kids. Key West may be small, but hey, we have some stuff for the little ones. And not too expensive either.

Back home and getting ready for my upcoming birthday. Can't believe I'm going to be (drumroll please) forty-four!! My new fella is flying in for the week, my friends from Nashville will be playing again at the Breath and my best pal from Atlanta is coming as well. The following week will bring back my favorite pals from Nashville, the Coal Men. So I'm looking forward to lots of fun, family and friends having a great time on the rock.

Mar. 25th, 2008 09:41 pm girlfriends are the best

I just had the lovliest dinner with my friend Eliza. We went out to cheer her up (guy problems) and had the nicest chat about work, guys, girls, crazy ex's and the general welfare of the world. Oh yes, and clothes. It always ends up being about men and clothes.

So here's to the girls. We totally rule the world, men just don't realize it. As long as we have one another, we shall stay sane.

I've had it. My job sooooo sucks. Everytime I think it really isn't that bad; something happens that makes me realize how much it sucks.

Tired of being used, abused and ridiculed.

Seriously considering finding another job. Just don't enjoy the job searching at all. I may just tell them that I don't want to work in the office and would rather be out at the booth selling parasail rides. Yep, that sounds like a plan...

Mar. 17th, 2008 06:38 pm Pulling myself out of the dumps

Yep, been in a major bummed out mode lately. Too many colds, too many hours at work, too many annoying people interfering in my life, etc. Yep: blah, blah, blah.

But I'm taking the steps necessary to get my sorry butt back into the high life. Spent a super-productive day yesterday when I finished work. Came home and CLEANED HOUSE in a major way. Finally straightened out the blasted sewing room. I always knew I had way too much fabric, patterns and such. Never realized I had so much knitting stuff though. Yarn is EVERYWHERE! I'm currently working on a couple of cute little knitted caps for some friends. And finally using the very expensive, very beautiful knitting ribbon I bought 4 years ago to make my mother a stole/wrap for her birthday in June. I have serious knitting ADD. Always have 3 or more projects at any given time. But I'm going to have to sell some of this stuff. It's way out of hand.

But the apartment is looking real good. Not bad considering I've been living here for a year now. Hopefully I won't be so embarrassed next time I have company.

So it is St. Patrick's Day and I am taking it easy before heading downtown to see my best buds start their first night at the Breath. Most of Key West is out and about; some of the guys I work with left at 1 pm and were already wrecked by 4:00. I hope there are still some folks standing when the band starts playing at 10 pm!! Have every intention of drinking, dancing and hanging out till the wee hours of the morning. I haven't seen my friends since August so we are loooong overdue for major catchup time together.

So to everyone out there-HAPPY ST. PATRICKS!!

Jan. 10th, 2008 07:07 pm New Year

Okay, have to re-think my profession of choice. I really enjoy working as a bookkeeper. But being a bookkeeper means I have to deal with the dreaded end-of-the-year number crunching. Lots and lots of numbers to crunch.

Deep breath; repeat to yourself; I love my job, I love my job.

Okay. Now if I can get this dang rash to go away. The doctor said it is due to stress. Stress? What is stress? I DON'T HAVE ANY STRESS IN MY LIFE!!!!! Maybe if I keep telling myself this, it will become true.

Nov. 26th, 2007 03:41 pm Waaaahhhh!

Alert! This is one whiny post so venture at your peril.

I hate my boss, I hate my job, I hate my life right now. Okay, I don't really "hate" everything, but I'm definately not a happy camper. My boss comes back from his lovely vacation all full of piss and vinegar, yelling about lots of little things. So after a really, really busy weekend dealing with crazy tourists, I get to deal with a psycho boss first thing Monday morning. The bus was not a fun place today.

Bad weather moving in which means my fibro is flaring up. I need a massage folks! But taking the day off tomorrow; celebrating some Nashville friends birthdays and heading out with them before they head home. So sleeping in the morning. Yesssss...

Okay-it's all out of my system now. Thanks everyone.

Nov. 19th, 2007 03:47 pm good man; an oxymoron?

Somehow I've managed to recover (well, mostly recovered) from recent heartbreak and have managed to meet a couple really great guys.

Of course, once again, they don't live anywhere near me. Why is that decent guys live in god-forsaken places like New Jersey and Virginia?

Oh well, it has been a fun week. An old acquaintance has moved back to Key West after 11 years and we have had fun catching up and hanging out with other old gang members. And another group is arriving this week for Thanksgiving. I'll probably have at least one decent hangover by the end of the week.

So when I get lonely and depressed, I can call these friends up and be surrounded with love and affection. Got to love the friends. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Actually, I guess I do need to post. But what to say, other than my life has been extremely crummy lately and I'm pretty depressed about it all. Work sucks, love life really REALLY sucks (I got dumped big time) and now I've got some major legal problems looming over my head.

I am beat. One more Fantasy Fest down, thank goodness there isn't another one for a full year.

So if anyone is interested in checking out the photo evidence of the fun we had, check out the flickr page. Yes, those are wigs. Yes, Sharla & I took lots of salicious pictures, many of which will not make it onto the public domain area.

But a good time was had by all. No arrests, no emergency room visits and we all woke up in our own beds. So I would say that it worked out well.

Oct. 20th, 2007 09:10 am alive, but barely

What a cruddy couple of weeks. Lots going on but nothing to really say anything about.

Needless to say, the stomach flu just about put me in the hospital. Someone like me cannot have something that keeps me from eating for a week.

And now we are having really nasty weather as well. Spent last night looking like a drowned rat and today is shaping up to be the same.

So I shall stay home (finally got a day off!) and watch my football game. All I have to say is:

GO NOLES! MIAMI SUCKS!!

Well, I'm still alive. Very long weekend. Everyone at work decided to go out of town at the same time so I spent all weekend being jack-of-all-trades. Yes folks, not only does she do bookkeeping; she also decorates boats for weddings, does phone reservations at all hours of the evening, checks in passengers and does general go-fer duty as well.

Needless to say, I'm taking tomorrow OFF! Do not call, do not write, do not disturb.

My good buddies are in town to play at the Hog's Breath this week so I'll be joining them to blow off some steam. Of course I will probably live to regret this tomorrow, but I'll have all day to recover.

Yes I do live an exciting life.

Sep. 6th, 2007 10:21 pm Viggo, nekked guys, mindless online quizzes-Oh My!!

First off, new Viggo movie coming out. He is playing a complete badass with lots of tattoos. All is good in the universe. My Viggo-meter is going off the charts!!

Second, I'm really ticked off because NBC is showing a dumb pro-football game (not to be compared to college football which I adore) instead of Scrubs. So no John C. McGinley fix tonight. Wah!!

But I did have a date tonight. We went to an early showing at the indie movie palace right off Duval Street. Side-splitting funny movie "Death At a Funeral". So go see it. If anything, to see Alan Tudyk nekked on the roof of a lovely English home. BTW, nice tushie Alan! I'd let you eat crackers in my bed anyday. Heck, I'll even forgive you for making "Dodgeball".

Last but not least, Jamesela got me hooked on another quiz. So here's the results, not that I didn't already know that I totally rock the literature thing. And even though I claim to hate math, I actually am pretty good at it. Go figure.

Aug. 28th, 2007 03:41 pm Accidents in the home

Being the single woman living on her own, I was jolted into the reality of getting hurt and being all alone last night. I slipped, fell forward and split my head wide open on the door jamb. Lots of blood, lots of pain. I did have my cell phone so I called my parents who live next door and the whole family rushed over to doctor me. The cut wasn't that bad (isn't it amazing the amount of bleeding one gets when they hit their head) so we didn't go to the ER. I believe that would have been more tramatic than the actual head injury. But I did stay at my parent's so they could keep an eye on me. Aren't families wonderful? Mom washed the blood away, my dad fretted and rubbed my shoulder and my brother thoughtfully cleaned up all the blood.

Of course, all I could think of was dying alone, sprawled on the floor of my apartment surrounded by my lp records. I guess I need one of those buttons you push when you fall. Remember the whole "Help! I've fallen and I can't get up!" commercials?

Thanks mom, dad, brother, my boss for not laughing at my clumsiness

Oh yes, I did have a head CT (my doctor insisted) and the official diagnosis is a mild concussion and oh yeah, I have a chronic sinus infection.
